Chunky Button Newborn Hat

Materials:
Super bulky yarn
8mm hook
1 5/8 in wood button or whatever buttons you want to use


Stitch Abbreviations:
Sc- single crochet
Hdc - half double crochet
Dc- double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
Ch – chain
Sts- stitches
FpHdc- front post half double crochet

Gauge:
Approximately: 4 Sts and 3 Rows = 2 inches

Directions:
Magic Ring, Ch. 2
Rnd 1: 10 Dc in ring, join, Ch.2 (10 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 Dc in each st around, join, ch.2 (20 sts)
Rnd 3: (Dc in 3 sts, 2 Dc in next) around, join, ch. 2 (25 sts)
Rnd 4-6: Dc in each st around (25 sts)
Rnd 7: Hdc in each st around (25 sts)
* For a different look you can Hdc in back loop only*

Rnd 8: (FpHdc in same st, skip st, Hdc in next) around (25sts)
Fasten Off and Weave in ends.


Notes:
 On the dark hat I use Lion Brand Hometown USA in Cambridge Tweed. On the Pink/Cream hat I used Red Heart Homespun with two strands held together. On the gray hat I used a bulky wool, not sure the brand, and Red Heart Super Saver in Charcoal. The Gray hat shows what it looks like when you work in the back loops on Round 7. ( Haven't bought a button for it yet.)
